In Another Story: Redlands man died in Simi Valley Rocky Peak Road crash.
A Redlands man died Wednesday morning when his automobile drove over the right shoulder and overturned on westbound Highway 118 west of Rocky Peak Road in Simi Valley. According to a CHP news release, the incident began at 4:49 a.m. when the California Highway Patrol received 911 calls reporting a single-vehicle crash. Patrol officers discovered a 2017 Buick with rollover damage in the bushes along the highway’s right shoulder.
The Ventura County Fire Department responded at the same moment as the CHP, and the driver was pronounced deceased on the site. Nobody else was inside the vehicle. The Ventura County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the driver who died in the crash as Matthew Thompson, 29. He was not wearing a seat belt, according to Officer Ryan Ayers of the California Highway Patrol’s Moorpark office in an email sent Wednesday.
Thompson was driving westbound, west of Rocky Peak, at an unknown speed when his vehicle drifted off the road onto the dirt- and brush-covered right shoulder, according to CHP records. The Buick continued through the undergrowth until it hit a rise in the terrain, took off, and turned end over end. The automobile landed on its roof, right shoulder.
It was unclear whether alcohol or drugs were involved in the incident, according to CHP officers. The right lane of westbound 118 was restricted for approximately an hour during the inquiry.
According to CHP authorities, the most effective strategy for people to decrease fatalities in motor vehicle accidents is to utilize their seatbelts on a regular basis. Anyone with information on the crash can call the CHP’s Moorpark office at 805-553-0800.
