Durell Shell Obituary, Death; – Long Beach detectives are currently investigating a shooting incident that resulted in the death of a man in the Washington neighborhood on Tuesday night.
According to the Long Beach Police Department, officers were dispatched to the vicinity of Locust Avenue and 14th Street shortly after 9 p.m. following reports of gunfire. Upon their arrival, they discovered evidence indicative of a shooting.
Authorities were informed that a man suffering from a gunshot wound had been transported to a nearby hospital by a private individual. The police later confirmed that this individual was the victim involved in the incident on Locust Avenue.
The victim has been identified as 38-year-old Durell Shell, a resident of Long Beach, who succumbed to his injuries at the hospital, as reported by the police. Homicide detectives suspect that the shooting may be gang-related and are actively investigating the motive and circumstances surrounding the event.
According to the LBPD, a gang-related crime is defined as one that is committed for the benefit of, at the direction of, or in association with any criminal street gang. This incident marks the second suspected gang-related murder within the week. On Sunday, 32-year-old Long Beach resident Edgar Ortiz-Escamilla was fatally shot near Poly High School.
