Dr. Benjamin Martin Obituary, Death – Dr. Benjamin Martin, 90, of Lincoln, Nebraska, a native of Pender, Nebraska, died peacefully at home with family on Saturday, March 30, 2024. St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Pender will conduct a viewing on Thursday, April 4, 2024, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Rosary and family tales. St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Pender will hold the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, April 5, 2024. Rosehill Cemetery in Pender holds troops.
The Pender Community Center provides lunch. Ben’s favorite organization, the ASPCA, can receive Doctor Martin’s memorial gifts! Ginger and Ben adopted four Catholic Charities kids. Munderloh-Smith Funeral Home in Pender, NE is in charge. The second of six children, he was born in Beemer, Nebraska, to Lorin and Emma (Hoefs) Martin on August 29, 1933. Reading, music, and country sports were his hobbies. Third-grade librarian paternal grandmother, who self-taught reading, encouraged him to study.
She gave him many library books. His 12-year-old dream was to be a doctor. After graduating high school at 16, Ben attended Wayne State. He met Regina “Ginger,” his future wife, during an Army Norfolk King’s Ballroom dance in 1953. After mastering the two-step and waltz from his high school typing teacher, he courted Ginger that night.
Ben dated Ginger for three weeks before joining the army. Letters were sent weekly after his departure. He proceeded to medical school after two years in the army and college. Ginger and Ben married January 28, 1956. Ben had babies while a medical student. Ginger supported his aspirations always. Ben worked in Crawford, Nebraska, after graduating from medical school in 1960 before relocating to Pender with Ginger to raise their family. Four adoptions followed seven stillbirths. Ben spoke kids, sports, holidays, fishing, fantastic buddies, and more.
He assisted many in 62 years as a doctor. Medical director of Pender Hospital for 30 years. Beemer, Pender, and Crawford were looked after. He and his son, Dr. Michael Martin, practiced in Lincoln for ten years. He treated all patients equally, regardless of color, gender, or status. He served on medical, religious, and school boards. His 1999 Nebraska Physician and Pender Businessman of the Year. Ben loved his 2,000 kids.
After 66 years of marriage, Benjamin and Ginger had 11 children, 37 grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren, and one on the way. Many creatures lived there. Lexi and Sammie often joined him. The late Dr. Martin lived in Crete, Nebraska, and Lincoln from 2011-2023. Saint Mary’s Catholic Church in Denton, Nebraska, was his. Regina “Ginger” Martin, Lorin and Emma Martin, Gene Martin, Marian Dennis, Warren Dennis, Bill Cohee, Mary Martin, and Dr. James “Jim” Martin predeceased him.
Gayle (Norbert) Holtz, Dennis (Julie) Martin, Susie Cohee, sister-in-law Irene Martin, and 37 grandchildren and spouses mourn him: Doug, Joni Duncan, Julie, Pat, Jill, Chris, Jill Ruskamp 84, say, “I hope life brings my family, kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids as much joy as it has given me.” Consider health.
