Doris Nelton Obituary, Death – Doris Jean (Hinds) Nelton, the daughter of Wilbur and Edna Hinds, was born on March 19, 1947 in Burlington, Iowa. She died away in a calm manner on March 29, 2024. She had reached the age of 77. At the Memorial Lutheran Church in Ames, a funeral service is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, April 3, 2024 at eleven o’clock in the morning. The church will be open for visitation for a period of one hour prior to the start of the service. Near Huxley, the Fjeldberg Cemetery will be the location of the interment.
She spent her childhood in Wapello, Iowa. Both Doris and Ruth, her older sister, took pleasure in assisting their mother with the preparation of meals and other chores around the house. It was in Burlington, on April 17, 1971, that Doris Nelton and Charles Nelton tied the knot and became husband and wife. Following their brief stay in Burlington, they were presented with the opportunity to operate a Quick Stop burger restaurant in New Ulm, Minnesota. They did that for more than five years.
That marked the beginning of their twenty-year journey of proprietorship of seven KFCs in Central Iowa. Ames (2), Ankeny, Carroll, Denison, Storm Lake, and Boone each had two representatives among them. Additionally, Charles’ brother and his wife were accompanying them on this journey. Doris served as the Chief Financial Officer and was responsible for ensuring that the figures were accurate. The time they spent each day serving the customers was enjoyable for both of them.
Particularly when they provided catering services for major events that took place in the towns. 1999 was the year that they were prepared to hang up their aprons and indulge in a little bit of retirement. They took pleasure in traveling to Florida and spending a few weeks there, either unwinding or taking advantage of the numerous activities that were there. Hawaii was her most cherished holiday destination.
The potential to run a single KFC establishment in Algona, Iowa, began to present itself in the year 2005. Robert and Missy were able to operate the day-to-day operations with the assistance of Doris and Charles. To the year 2017, they continued to run that eatery. Each of their kids, Robert and Brian, were very active members of the Boy Scouts, and she was extremely proud of each of them for achieving the Eagle Award of their respective organizations.
Growing plants and reading books were two of Doris’s favorite activities. She had a deep affection for her canine companions, and she took them on numerous journeys with her. When it became necessary for Sunshine and Sir Sunshine to cross the rainbow bridge, she was utterly heartbroken. Throughout her life, Princess Sunshine has been a source of solace for her, and she will continue to be for Charles.
Her husband, Charles, her sons Robert (Missy) and Brian (Kelly) of Ames, their granddaughter, Abby Nelton, their step-granddaughter, Allie Miller, their grandsons, Toby Nelton, Logan, and Austin Nelton, their sister, Ruth Matteson of Donnellson, Iowa, and her brother-in-law, Richard Nelton of Des Moines, as well as a large number of nieces and nephews and members of their extended family are among those who survive Doris.
Ruth’s husband, Eugene Matteson, and Richard’s wife, Robin Nelton, passed away before her. Her parents, Wilbur and Edna Hinds, as well as Charles’ parents, Quentin and Marjorie Nelton, were all deceased before her at the time she passed away.
