Donna Stafford Cause of Death: On August 11, 2024, Donna Stafford, a beloved West Springfield, Massachusetts resident, passed away. She was the adored daughter of Edna and Lester Stafford, born on October 13, 1960. Donna was born and raised in West Springfield, where she also completed her high school education in 1978. She went on to graduate from Roger Williams College with a degree in electrical engineering and Western New England College with a master’s degree.
Donna made a substantial contribution to Western Mass Electric Company as an engineer. She met Gary West during this period, the man she would spend the next 35+ amazing years with. Together, they traveled the world, residing in South Africa, England, Poland, Kiev, and eventually New England, where they finally made their home in Springfield 24 years ago.
Their historic home, which Donna filled with beauty and elegance, was a reflection of her enthusiasm for architecture, design, antiques, and art. Her garden was a source of great pride, frequently praised for its elegant simplicity and tranquility. Donna had a rich cultural life, going to Broadway musicals, operas at the Met in New York City, and James Taylor concerts at Tanglewood. She really enjoyed throwing Kentucky Derby parties, traveling to Nantucket in September, and finding treasures at the Brimfield Antique Flea Market.
As her family had lived at Lake Wyola for more than 73 years, Donna felt a strong bond with the place. She was very happy with the cottage her father had built, and she actively participated in preserving the local fauna and the lake’s natural beauty. Donna showed her dedication to the community by serving as President of the Lake Wyola Association from 2017 until her death.
Lester and Edna Stafford, Donna’s parents, passed away before her. Her loving spouse Gary West, her sister Doris Hayes of West Springfield, her brother Charles Stafford and his spouse Judy of Irvin, several nieces, nephews, in-laws, and her cherished dog Eddie, who went on daily walks with her through Forest Park, are among her survivors.
Everyone who knew Donna will cherish her colorful personality, commitment to her neighborhood, and affection for her family. Her creative and loving legacy will never cease to inspire those who had the good fortune to know her.
