Donald McMahan Obituary – The death occurred at the age of 91 of Donald Eugene McMahan, who was a well-known and respected member of the Amarillo community. The legacy that he left behind was one that was marked by love, faith, and devotion to the education and protection of his family. Don McMahan was brought up to be a man of integrity and compassion despite the fact that he was born in Amarillo, Texas, on June 6, 1932.
He had Mable and Frank McMahan as his parents. His parents were his parents. In the year 1950, he graduated from Amarillo High School and obtained his diploma. On June 17, 1955, he tied the knot with Janet Regal, the lady who would go on to become the love of his life. This event took place four years later. His passing took place on March 21, 2024, following an extraordinary 68 years of marriage between the two of them.
Don worked as a principal of elementary schools for the Amarillo Independent School District (AISD) for thirty years, which was the entirety of his professional career. Due to his genuine concern for the students and staff who were under his leadership, as well as his excitement for education, a significant number of people’s lives were profoundly affected. This was the result of his zeal for education.
In a tragic turn of events, Don’s parents, his beloved wife Janet, their son Jack Thomas McMahan, and their grandson Garrett McMahan all perished away before his own passing. Those who are left behind will always cherish Don’s memory in the highest esteem, despite the fact that they are going through a tremendous loss at the moment.
He is survived by only two members of his family: his son, John David McMahan, who resides in Atlanta, Georgia, and his daughter, Ann McMahan Parker, who continues to dwell in Amarillo, Texas. Both of these individuals are his sole living relatives. To add salt to injury, he is survived by his two granddaughters, Jennifer Hogan and Clair Daniel, as well as his grandson, Colin Kozar, and his four great-grandchildren, Adelyn, Brecken, Noah, and Willow. He also leaves behind his grandson, Colin Kozar.
On the Tuesday, March 26th, 2024, at 2:00 p.m., funeral services will be held in Llano Cemetery to celebrate the life of Don. Bill Ivins will serve as the officiant for the ceremony.
