It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of retired Detective Charles “Chip” Schofield. Detective Schofield dedicated 20 years of service to the department. Following his retirement in 2019, he was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer. Despite this, Detective Schofield courageously battled his illness, exhibiting the same determination and bravery that defined his commitment to serving our community.
During his tenure with #teamNPD, Detective Schofield focused on youth engagement, serving as a DARE Officer, School Resource Officer, advisor for the department’s cadet/explorer post, and detective in the Youth Division. His unwavering dedication to seeking justice for vulnerable children was evident in his relentless pursuit of investigating crimes against them.
Chip will be remembered for his kindness, empathy, and unwavering dedication to community safety. He was a mentor and role model to many in Naugatuck, and his impact will endure in the lives he touched.
Outside of work, Chip’s greatest source of pride was his family. He was a devoted husband and father to his three daughters, often seen on the softball field with them—coaching, practicing, and traveling with enthusiasm.
As we reflect on Detective Schofield’s life, let us support his family, friends, and loved ones. May they find solace in the enduring legacy of his compassion and commitment to family, friends, and the Naugatuck community. Chip often concluded his posts with the words, “In this fight, I am NOT alone.” His memory lives on in the hearts of many who will deeply miss him.
