Dennis Vosika Obituary, Death; – A 28-year-old man entered a Kwik Trip convenience store in Mankato armed with a knife, consumed snacks, and subsequently stabbed an employee 43 times, as detailed in the charges.
Michael Lee Miller, aged 28, was charged on Wednesday with second-degree murder, indicating intent but lacking premeditation. The deceased Kwik Trip employee has been identified as Dennis Vosika, 34, from Mankato, according to city spokesman Paul David.
Law enforcement reported that officers responded to a 911 call and arrived at the Kwik Trip located at 1549 Madison Avenue shortly after 3 a.m. on Tuesday.
Upon arrival, officers discovered broken glass and found Vosika unresponsive behind the counter, surrounded by a significant amount of blood. An autopsy revealed that Vosika sustained 43 “sharp force injuries.”
Authorities stated that surveillance footage and a witness helped them identify Miller as the suspect, who was recognized as a frequent customer at the Kwik Trip.
Miller reportedly entered the store with a knife featuring a 9-inch blade. He began consuming meat from a cooler and drinking bottled water.
A witness informed the police that he had told Miller he needed to pay for the food. The witness then retreated to the back rooms and locked the door, only to see Miller begin to smash his head against the glass door until it shattered.
Surveillance video captured Miller confronting Vosika, cornering him behind the register, and subsequently stabbing him. Police apprehended Miller at his residence in Mankato, located approximately a third of a mile away.
Miller reportedly told police that he brought a knife and a lighter to the Kwik Trip because he felt “like, God is telling me,” according to the charging documents.
He allegedly expressed to the police that his intention was to set the store ablaze and claimed not to remember using the knife.
