WILMINGTON, DE. — Allen Samuels, popularly known as Duffy, is the founder of the organization Duffy’s Hope, and CBS News Philadelphia had the opportunity to speak with him. This year marks the return of the 19th annual Duffy’s Hope Celebrity Basketball Game to the Chase Fieldhouse for another year of competition.
According to Duffy, the primary objective of the event is to encourage mentoring relationships and raise awareness about the dangers of substance usage while bringing families together for a pleasant day. “I get out of it seeing the smiles on the kids’ faces, because these actors, actresses, and entertainers are on TV all the time, so they never really get the chance to talk to them,” Duffy said. “It’s a great opportunity for me.”
At-risk children and teenagers in Delaware will benefit from the event’s emphasis on non-violence, positive recreation, and a peaceful environment. “Therefore, by bringing them to Delaware at this time, they will have the chance to sit down with them. Simply because they don’t always hear the message I’m trying to convey. However, when they hear it from famous people, they say things like, “Man, did you hear what [Lorenz] Tate said?”
The match will take place at Chase Field House on August 5. Some of the prominent celebs who will be participating in the game include Lorenz Tate, Lil Mash, Cash Style, Da Vinci, Blac Chyna, Jimmie Allen, Funny Boy Quill, Bobby J, Young Dylan, and more. You can anticipate to see all of them and more.
