DeJay DayQuan Kidd Obituary, Death;- A man from Minnesota was reportedly killed in Muncie by a minor after he confronted the juvenile regarding alleged threats made against a woman he had met online two months prior.
Seventeen-year-old Julius Sanchez has been charged with the following offenses:
– Murder, a felony
– Two counts of Obstruction of Justice, a Level 6 felony
– Dangerous Possession of a Firearm, a Class A misdemeanor
Muncie Police Department officers were called to the 2100 block of S Elm St. around 1:22 p.m. on February 7, following reports of a shooting. Upon their arrival, they discovered a man on the front porch suffering from a gunshot wound to the throat.
The victim, identified as DeJay DayQuan Kidd, was pronounced dead at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital. According to court documents, Kidd had traveled to Indiana to meet a woman he had encountered online when he learned of Sanchez’s alleged threats toward her. He decided to confront the teenager at his residence.
When Kidd arrived at the home, Sanchez opened the door and fired at him. The individuals accompanying Kidd fled the scene, leaving him alone on the porch with the suspect. One of those who left later reported the incident to the police.
Three witnesses stated that they did not see Kidd with a firearm. In contrast, Sanchez alleged that he had a gun in his waistband and claimed that Kidd exited a van and brandished it while looking through the windows of his home.
The firearm found near Kidd was reported stolen to the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office on April 5, 2023, approximately two years before Kidd’s visit to Muncie. Court documents indicate that Sanchez frequently altered his account of the events.
This investigation is ongoing, and updates will be provided as new information becomes available.
