Death; Maria Eichas,18, Obituary, Basketballer At Spencerport Girls Basketball Died From a Car Accident: Maria K. Eichas, a recent Spencerport High School alumna, went away tragically. On Sunday, June 2, 2024, a horrible accident in Parma claimed her life. Deputy Brendan Hurley of the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office reports that the deadly crash happened on Burritt Road just after one in the morning. Alexander T. Hackett, 33, of Parma, was driving the other car when it rear-ended Eichas’s sport utility vehicle, which was heading west.
Eichas was declared dead at the scene despite efforts to save her, leaving a gap that can never be healed. Hackett was accused of committing a felony known as second-degree vehicular manslaughter. Maria Eichas’s presence brightened the halls of Spencerport High School for those who knew her. She demonstrated her skill on the basketball court as an engaged member of the school community, making a lasting impression on both coaches and players.
Her sudden death has clouded the happy memories that her classmates and teachers have shared, serving as a constant reminder to all of us of how fleeting life is and how important it is to treasure the time we have spent together. With heavy heart, Superintendent Ty Zinkiewich spoke to the Spencerport community, extending his sympathies and support to all who were impacted by the loss. Zinkiewich informed the families of Spencerport in a letter that on Tuesday night, grief counselors would be available in the Cosgrove Middle School library, offering a place for graduates, relatives, and friends to unite in remembering and support.
