Felipe Hernandez Death, Obituary -Felipe Augustus Hernandez, aged 20, of Lawrence, MA, passed away on Sunday, July 7, 2024, after bravely confronting a prolonged battle with depression and anxiety. Born on April 27, 2004, Felipe was the cherished child of Jorge and Katherine “Kate” (Lennon) Hernandez.
Felipe spent their formative years in Lawrence, MA, receiving their education at St. Augustine’s Andover and Central Catholic High School. They were actively involved in sports, notably as a member of the cross country and swimming and diving teams, where they exemplified dedication and sportsmanship.
Known for their tender-hearted nature and deep love for nature itself, Felipe was a beacon of unconditional love and compassion. They possessed a profound empathy that resonated with everyone they encountered. Their commitment to understanding and embracing diverse perspectives was a hallmark of their character, influencing their advocacy for inclusivity and acceptance.
Beyond their academic and athletic pursuits, Felipe was a passionate participant in the arts, particularly theater, and spent several summers engaged in performances at various venues, including the Advice to the Players Shakespeare camp and Acting Out in Lawrence. Their musical talents extended to playing the piano and guitar, coupled with a beautiful singing voice that captivated many.
Felipe was an active member and advocate within the LGBTQIA2S+ community, notably through their involvement with NAGLY, where they worked tirelessly to promote youth advocacy and support. Their interests spanned from music and anime to a deep passion for Pokemon, Gorillaz, MCR, and Green Day, reflecting their eclectic tastes and vibrant spirit.
In their pursuit of helping others, Felipe utilized their academic talents in chemistry and social sciences to further their studies in psychology and pharmacy, aspiring to make a meaningful impact on the lives of those struggling with mental health challenges.
Felipe will be dearly missed by their devoted parents, Jorge and Kate Hernandez, loving brother Alexander Hernandez, and their grandparents, Richard and Eileen Lennon, and Jose and Martha Hernandez. They are also survived by their aunts, uncles, cousins, and a wide circle of relatives across the United States and Mexico. Felipe’s beloved golden retriever, Aurora, also mourns their passing.
Friends and relatives are invited to pay their respects during calling hours on Sunday, July 14, 2024, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Cataudella Funeral Home, 126 Pleasant Valley Street, Methuen. A non-denominational celebration of Felipe’s life will be held on Monday at 11:00 AM in the funeral home chapel, where attendees are encouraged to share memories and expressions of remembrance. Guests are welcome to contribute photos or meaningful memorabilia to an ofrenda (memorial altar) in honor of Felipe, displayed throughout the event.
Felipe’s departure leaves an indelible void, yet their legacy of love, empathy, and advocacy will endure in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know them.
