Cathy Bevis Obituary, Death Newburgh, Indiana – Cathy Sue Bevis, a cherished member of the Newburgh community, passed away peacefully at the age of 81 on Wednesday, November 13, 2024, due to complications from congestive heart failure. Cathy, known for her radiant smile and kind-hearted nature, leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and dedication to her family and community. Born on May 28, 1943, in Mount Vernon, Illinois, Cathy was the fifth of five children born to Warren Hinkley and Vivian Lita (Hughey) Kinison. Cathy attended Webb School, a one-room schoolhouse in rural Jefferson County, where she distinguished herself as an accomplished student, winning a county-wide essay contest as an eighth grader. Her prize was a trip to Springfield, a memory she cherished.
After graduating from Woodlawn High School, Cathy met her future husband, Larry Bevis. The couple married on December 5, 1958, at Woodlawn Baptist Church and would have celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary in just a few days. Their marriage, rooted in love and mutual respect, was a model of devotion and partnership. Cathy was a lifelong member of West Antioch General Baptist Church and also enjoyed attending Bible study at Ashland Christian Church. Her faith was central to her life, and she was deeply involved in her church community. Beyond her spiritual commitment, Cathy had a passion for sports.
She was an avid participant in slow-pitch softball, pitching in both church and city league teams in Fairfield. She was also a devoted fan of the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team, who enjoyed a streak of good luck during the summer when Cathy attended 12 consecutive games—all of which ended in victories for the team. Her family and friends remember Cathy as a woman who was always ready to offer support, encouragement, and kindness. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, who will be deeply missed by all who knew her
