Dawn Vera Kovach Obituary, Death;- The Allen County Coroner’s Office has confirmed – the identity of a woman who succumbed to injuries sustained from gunshot wounds in New Haven on Thursday.
The deceased has been identified as 54-year-old Dawn Vera Kovach, a resident of New Haven. The coroner’s office reported that she was pronounced dead at the scene, located in the 2600 block of Wayne Haven Street. On Thursday, the New Haven Police Department received a report regarding a potential homicide involving a homeless individual, leading to the discovery of Kovach during a welfare check.
An autopsy revealed that Kovach’s death resulted from multiple gunshot wounds, and the case has been classified as a homicide. New Haven Police Chief James Krueger informed WANE 15 that a suspect is currently in custody at the Allen County Jail, and there is no ongoing threat to the community.
The investigation into the shooting is being conducted by the New Haven Police Department, the Allen County Coroner’s Office, the Allen County Prosecutor’s Office, and the Indiana State Police. Kovach’s death represents the fourth homicide recorded in Allen County for the year 2025.
