Davis Winston Obituary, Death – Joseph Winston Davis, who was 79 years old, passed away without any discomfort on January 7 at his residence. His devoted wife, Betsy Sahl Davis, his daughter Jennifer Bunn (Leonard), his son Samuel Davis, his grandkids Adam and Cody Davis, and his brother Harold Davis (Carolyn) are among those who are left behind after his passing. His sister Audrey Davis Tunstall and his parents, Woodrow and Ruby Davis, passed away before him. He is the only child of his parents.
Joe pursued his lengthy career in the family logging and timber company after graduating from Blackstone High School. His passion was timber cruising, and he worked towards that goal throughout his entire life. It was there that he made the statement that the two most significant lies that have ever been told are “The dog don’t bite!” and “The timber’s mine!” He was regarded as a just and honourable individual by his employees, colleagues, and customers, and he enjoyed a high level of trust and respect within the industry.
During their time at her nursing school in Baltimore, Maryland, Joe and Betsy were introduced to one another by acquaintances they shared. On January 28, 1967, they eloped to Elizabeth City, North Carolina. Over the course of 57 years, he was a dedicated spouse, a generous parent, and a friend to many.
At various points in his life, “Nate” or “Doc,” as he was affectionately referred to by a large number of friends, enjoyed activities such as hunting with his bird dogs, boating at Buggs Island, golfing, piloting, travelling with friends and family, buying and selling properties, spending happy hours at the pond and, later, the cabin, where he told many a story that would “make a dog laugh,” constructing vacation homes in the Outer Banks, and, finally, in Urbanna, where he loved to sit on the porch overlooking the water and visit with his close friend Dale. But above all else, Joe, often known as “Papa,” discovered that one of his greatest delights was the love he had for his grandchildren.
