Dave Coleman, the co-founder of 3 Stars Brewing in Washington, District of Columbia, has passed away earlier this week, he was a true pioneer in the DC beer scene. According to DC Brau Brewing Company, “The fledgling days of the DC beer scene were truly magical. We were all working together to build something that didn’t exist at that point in time and Dave is forever inseparable from that magic. That is how he will always stay in our minds.” We’re grateful for every moment and every beer shared with him. His passion will forever inspire us.
Dave’s vivacious energy and his unmistakable 3 Star swagger sent a ray of sunshine into every area. In everything he did and in the way he conducted himself, he always gave off the impression of being younger. We are keeping his whole community in our thoughts.
Dave Coleman, The Big Hunt and 3 Stars Brewing
At The Big Hunt in Washington, D.C., Dave Coleman served as the general manager when his associate Mike McGarvey began producing beer at home. Coleman devoted years during his tenure at The Big Hunt to improving the standard and quality of beer available to patrons.
Coleman, dissatisfied with the concoctions he had managed to discover, chose to assist McGarvey with his home brewing endeavours. The two commenced devoting innumerable hours to research and recipe development in an effort to produce beers that not only satisfied their own elevated criteria but also garnered widespread popularity. In 2009, after swiftly realizing that their enthusiasm transcended home brewing, they initiated preparations to establish 3 Stars Brewing Company. However, prior to establishing their physical location, the brewery initiated the distribution of their beers through strategic partnerships with well-established breweries such as Evolution Craft Brewing Company and Oliver Ales. This approach enabled them to not only garner recognition but also influence the tastes of the local community.
