U.S — In the early hours of Friday morning, a man who was 57 years old was shot and killed in the Canton neighbourhood of Baltimore during an armed robbery and carjacking. Officers were dispatched to the 1000 block of South Curley Street at approximately 12:30 in the morning in response to a complaint of gunfire, as stated by the police. They discovered a man, age 57, who was suffering from what seemed to be a gunshot wound. The man was confirmed dead shortly after the arrival of medical personnel at the scene. Darrell Benner, a resident of Baltimore, has been named as the victim in this tragedy.
The family of Benner has expressed their disbelief and sorrow over the situation. They reported that everything took place as he was helping his nephew Jeffrey, who had a red Dodge Charger, move his vehicle. It was around 12:30 a.m. last night when he asked Darrell to move his car, and when Darrell went to move the car, three males approached him and Jeffrey, and they held a gun to Jeffrey’s head. I guess Darrell tried to intercede, and they shot him, a relative named Chuck Magruder said.
According to the police, after conducting an investigation, it was established that a 29-year-old relative of the victim was on South Curley Street when he was approached by three unidentified Black male suspects who were armed, and the 29-year-old was robbed. The police added that following the inquiry, it was determined that the victim was on South Curley Street. Benner gave pursuit to the thieves while they were committing the theft.
According to the news release issued by the police, Benner went back to his house to retrieve a firearm before pursuing the alleged perpetrators. Benner’s family members refuted the story, stating that their relative did not own a firearm.
Police said that the suspects opened fire on Benner as they were fleeing the scene with the 29-year-old’s belongings and his red Dodge Charger with the Maryland number plate number 3FL1240. Benner was killed in the exchange of gunfire.
