Darlisse Rivera-Albino; Killed While Trying To Assist Wrong Way Crash Victim On Interstate Colorado Springs :The city of Colorado Springs Over Memorial Day weekend, a wrong-way collision on a Colorado interstate claimed the lives of three people. According to police, one of the deaths was a 64-year-old man who was attempting to assist two crash victims at the scene and was later identified as Jose Montalvo.
Authorities say they received a report early on Sunday morning about a driver who was traveling the wrong way on Interstate 25.While responding, the driver struck another car head-on, according to the officers. That crash claimed the lives of two persons, and as Montalvo attempted to help them, he was struck and killed.
“An individual pulled over and got out of their car to offer assistance. They were hit by another car heading north while trying to cross the interstate, according to a Colorado Springs Police Department spokesman.
The 64-year-old rushed across the freeway as other cars were stopped and had their hazard lights on, according to witnesses who spoke with KKTV. But before hitting Montalvo, an oncoming car didn’t appear to notice the first collision or the slowing traffic.Police said both drivers involved in the head-on collision succumbed to their injuries. One victim was identified as Darlisse Rivera-Albino, 37, but the identity of the other victim has not been released.
