Daniel Martinez Obituary, Death – We are deeply saddened to inform you of the demise of our dearly loved and longtime club member Daniel A. “Danny” Martinez, who was 95 years old. Danny was a really extraordinary person who made exceptional contributions to our community in the roles of citizen, volunteer, mentor, philanthropist, advocate, and friend. These roles helped ensure that Danny’s legacy will live on in our community forever.
Following his time of service in the United States Army, Danny decided to pursue his love of study and eventually graduated from the University of Florida with a degree in chemical engineering. Beginning his career in 1952 at what was then known as Hudson Pulp & Paper Corporation but is now known as Georgia-Pacific’s Palatka mill, he worked there for the better part of four decades, leaving behind an indelible legacy of commitment to one’s work and achieving the highest levels of success.
Despite this, Danny’s influence was felt much beyond the realm of his professional successes. He was a selfless chairperson of various organizations, including the Putnam County Chamber of Commerce, the Haven Hospice Foundation, the Palatka Housing Authority, the Nursing Home Authority, and the advisory board of First Union Bank. He was an engaged leader in our community. His knowledge and generosity were also shared with Rodeheaver Boys Ranch and The Arc of Putnam County, two places where he had a profound impact on a large number of people’s lives. His commitment to public service reached its zenith while he was serving on the governing board of the St. Johns River Water Management District and as chairman of the board of trustees at the HCA Florida Putnam Hospital. Danny exemplified the ideals of service to others and involvement in one’s community during his tenure as president of the Palatka Rotary Club.
The love story that Danny shared with his late wife, Katie, spanned an astonishing 68 years, which is a witness to their unbreakable bond and unwavering dedication to one another. Together, they were responsible for the upbringing of three children and created a warm and supportive atmosphere that encouraged personal development and compassion.
The impact that Danny’s unflagging dedication to our town and his relentless work has had on it cannot be overstated. His life and work will continue to serve as a model for future generations. As we say our final goodbyes to this remarkable person, let us remember him as a shining example for others to follow, a steadfast supporter of the community, and a treasured friend. All of those who had the honor of knowing and loving Danny Martinez will grieve his passing in a profound way. Rotary Club of Palatka’s “In Memory Of”
