Daniel Martinez, 26, was taken into custody by the Baton Rouge Police Department on many charges, including vehicular homicide, operating a vehicle while drunk, and careless operation of a vehicle, according to an arrest report. Martinez was arrested on these accusations.
The collision occurred on the eastbound I-12 at approximately 2:30 a.m. on November 14, 2022. According to the records kept at the jail, Martinez was operating a Ford F-250 at the time he collided with a halted 18-wheeler on the freeway. When the Ford went off the road and hit the 18-wheeler, the driver of the 18-wheeler was in the process of exchanging drivers.
According to the reports of the police, the Ford rolled onto its driver’s side before coming to a stop in the middle of the interstate between the outside and middle lanes. Edgar Hernandez, who was a passenger in the Ford, was identified as the person who perished in the collision.
On the evening of the collision, the investigators took a blood sample from Martinez and then forwarded it to the crime lab of the Louisiana State Police. A guy who is accused of driving under the influence of alcohol has been taken into custody in connection to a fatal accident that occurred toward the end of the previous year.
According to the findings from LSP, Martinez was found to have a blood alcohol content level that was more than the permissible limit of.08%. The investigation led the detectives to discover that Martinez did not possess a valid driver’s license.
