Cynthia Arca Obituary, Woman from Anchorage dies after being stuck on Seward Beach; A woman tragically died on Tuesday in the waters of Resurrection Bay outside of Seward, according to Alaska State Troopers.
Initially, there was some difficulty in identifying the victim, but the State Medical Examiner’s Office eventually confirmed her as Cynthia Arca, 47, of Anchorage.
According to a trooper dispatch, Alaska State Troopers were notified just before 11 a.m. about Arca, who was struggling to stay above the incoming tide. The U.S. Coast Guard and Bear Creek Volunteer Fire Department responded to the scene, and firefighters were able to recover Arca’s body from the water.
Mike Insalaco, the owner of Nash Bayfront Campground, a popular resting place for fishermen located less than a mile from where the woman was found, provided additional details. He mentioned that Arca had been fishing off Afognak Beach and was reportedly “way out there” in the water. Insalaco noted that this part of the beach can draw large crowds, sometimes leading anglers to venture far from the shore.
According to NOAA records, the high tide early Tuesday afternoon measured 8.3 feet, significantly higher than the low tide earlier in the day, which was only 10 feet lower.
The circumstances surrounding Arca’s death are a stark reminder of the dangers posed by the powerful tides of Resurrection Bay, especially during high tide periods. The community and authorities continue to mourn her loss and remind beachgoers and fishermen alike to exercise caution and be aware of tide conditions when venturing into the water.
