Crime: Tennessee Woman Attempts Murder by Hiring Hitman to Kill Wife of man she met on Dating Website, Police Says
Prosecutors claim that a lady in Tennessee tried to pay over $10,000 to an online hitman in order to have the wife of a man she met on Match.com killed.
Court records show that Melody Sasser, 48, hired a hitman for a “job” last year via the shadowy “Online Killers Market” website.
According to WVLT, the website purports to provide hitman-for-hire services, hacking, kidnapping, extortion, acid attack disfigurement, and sexual assault.
Using the pseudonym “cattree,” Sasser sent the website administrator a message proposing to hire a hitman. She stressed that the “job” needed to look like an accident in order to allay suspicions of illegal behavior, and she paid $9,750 in Bitcoin for it.
“It must appear accidental, random, or plant-based medications; a thorough study is not desired. Her new spouse moved in recently,” Sasser wrote to the administrator.
The only name JW, the lady she wanted dead, and her husband, DW, who met Sasser on Match.com before getting married, reside in Prattville, Alabama.
DW claimed that prior to moving to Alabama and being married to his current wife, Sasser assisted him on an Appalachian Trail walk.
According to court filings, Sasser used technology to mask her voice and leave threatening voicemails on JW’s phone.
According to court records, Sasser spoke with the administrator of “Online Killers Market” twice a month about his displeasure with the “job” not being finished.
She wrote to the administrator, “I have waited for two months and eleven days, and the job is not completed.” “You stated two weeks ago that it was being worked on and will be finished in one week. The task remains unfinished. Does someone else need to be given this task? Will it be completed? Why is there a delay? When will [SIC] be finished.
According to court filings, Sasser sent JW’s location and photos to the website during their correspondence.
Sasser allegedly used the Strava app, which syncs with Garmin watches to share fitness data, to track the couple’s whereabouts.
She once alerted the administrator of “Online Killers Market” after JW departed her house to go for a two-mile walk.
However, the plan failed, which resulted in Sasser’s arrest and a search of her house.
During the investigation of her residence, law officers discovered a mound of cash beneath a sticky note with a Bitcoin address, a handwritten description of talks with the “Online Killers Market,” and a diary detailing many additional hitman websites.
In June of last year, a federal grand jury accused Sasser for using facilities related to interstate commerce to commit murder for hire.
After reaching a plea agreement on Wednesday, Sasser was given a sentence of 100 months in jail and ordered to reimburse the victim for more than $5,300.
