Crazy Boat Propeller Accident Results In A Woman Losing A Limb-
A bizarre boating mishap has permanently altered the life of an Alabama lady.
On May 15, Nikki Goodman and her spouse were sailing to Gravine Island, which is close to Mobile, Alabama, in a boat for a fun-filled day in the sun.
Having just left the Chickasaw boat launch, they were looking forward to an amazing day.
“He was fishing, you know, having a relaxing day, and I was lazing in the sun,” Goodman said.
Their boat suddenly broke down, resulting in the unimaginable.
“The boat just started spinning and it immediately threw us off [the boat] when the hydraulic cable that goes to the steering broke,” Goodman claimed.
Goodman’s legs were cut by the propeller of the boat during the pandemonium. Her spouse returned to the boat, but he was unable to locate her until she started calling out for assistance.
“Help me, my legs are going numb, I can’t feel my legs,” she said, but her leg had already disappeared.
She was horrified to see that her left leg had been severed just above the knee. She has serious injuries to her right leg.
Her husband, shocked, hauled her back aboard the boat and began snatching up whatever he could find to stem the bleeding. Goodman said that she never lost consciousness, miraculously.
“He started tying whatever we had on the boat, like bungee cords, to my legs to stop the bleeding,” Goodman recalled.
Luckily, at that moment, another boat was going by. Two on-board nice Samaritans pulled over to provide assistance.
It was a man and a lady, and I would really like to track them out and express my gratitude for saving my life. They were already speaking with 911 on the phone. He jumped on the boat with my husband right away and began to assist him. I’d prefer not to give him a handshake. I really want to say thank you and I want to hug his neck,” she murmured.
Goodman has an important message for boaters as they prepare to celebrate Memorial Day.
“People just need to take that extra time and that extra dollar to make sure their equipment is up to par because they don’t want to experience what I’ve experienced,” she added. Put on your life preservers. Neither one of us had on a life jacket, including mine. Even if you’re simply cruising, put on your life jackets.
Goodman will need time to heal as she gets ready for physical therapy and is fitted for a prosthetic limb.
