Cooper Schoenke Obituary, Death; – New details have emerged regarding a high-speed police chase that took place in Atlanta’s Little Five Points neighborhood, which tragically resulted in a fatality.
The driver, identified by authorities as Faduma Mohamed, ran a red light and collided with another vehicle, leading to the death of 19-year-old Cooper Schoenke. According to court documents, the pursuit began when a Georgia State Patrol (GSP) trooper attempted to pull over a Chevrolet Equinox for speeding and reckless driving on I-20 East.
The documents indicate that Mohamed led law enforcement on a two-mile chase, reaching speeds of up to 80 mph in a 35 mph zone, maneuvering through traffic without signaling lane changes. The pursuit ended at the intersection of Moreland and Euclid Avenues, where she ran a red light and struck Schoenke’s vehicle, resulting in his death.
Upon her arrest, authorities reported that Mohamed displayed signs of drug impairment, such as excessive sweating, abrupt mood changes, and aggressive behavior. Suspected narcotics were discovered in her purse, and she declined to undergo a blood test. Furthermore, her vehicle’s registration was found to be expired.
This incident has sparked renewed discussions regarding the GSP’s pursuit policies, which allow troopers significant discretion in both initiating and terminating chases. Community leaders and residents have voiced their concerns about the risks associated with high-speed pursuits in heavily populated areas.
