By the time he was 56 years old, Cole Gustafson had passed away. He was a well-liked person in both his familial and professional worlds. Cole was born and reared on the family farm in Minnesota, which had been passed down from generation to generation. His roots were firmly ingrained in the land and the principles that went on to form his life and work.
Although he was baptized, confirmed, and eventually married at Chisago Lake Lutheran Church in Center City, his early years were characterized by a strong commitment to his church and community. As amazing as Cole’s dedication to carrying on the agricultural tradition of his family, his academic career was equally impressive. Both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees were obtained at the University of Minnesota, where he was a student.
In order to improve his studies, Cole pursued a doctoral degree in agricultural economics from the University of Illinois. He did this because he was so enthusiastic about both agriculture and economics. The foundation for a remarkable career that would span several decades and have a substantial impact on the subject of agricultural economics was laid by his endeavours in the academic world.
