(PINPOINT WEATHER) — Wednesday morning is a Pinpoint Weather Alert morning as overnight temperatures have plummeted into the low twenties, upper teens, and even single digits in our mountain counties. Tuesday evening’s snow showers were enough for some roadways to be icy and slick this Wednesday morning.
Be sure to exercise caution on untreated roads and those secondary roadways. We’ll see a Winter Weather Advisory last through 9 a.m. Wednesday morning for Mecklenburg County and points south and east of the Queen City.
Wind chills will also be a major factor Wednesday morning, bringing out feels-like temperatures into the single digits around uptown and as low as 25 degrees below zero in our higher elevations! An Extreme Cold Warning is in effect for Ashe, Avery, & Watauga counties, while everywhere else will see a Cold Weather Advisory through noon Wednesday.
Mostly sunny skies will only get us into the low 30s through the peak heating hours of the day while mountains hit the low twenties. Winds will be relatively light out of the north-northeast between 3 and 8 miles per hour.
Tonight will get frigid again, bottoming out in the teens yet again heading into Thursday morning. Highs will rebound back into the upper 30s before 40s return on Friday.
This weekend will continue the warming trend as partly cloudy skies linger. We’ll hit the mid to upper 40s before the 50s return heading into early next week.
Wednesday Night: Mostly Clear & Frigid. Low: 17.
Thursday: Mostly Sunny & Cold. High: 33.
