(PINPOINT WEATHER) — It’s been cold all week, but tonight through Thursday morning, it’s expected to be a dangerous level of cold as the wind picks up a little more. A Cold Weather Advisory is in effect for the mountains and central/eastern NC, with “feels like” temps as cold as 10-15 below zero in the mountains. Limit time outside, and if you are outside, protect your skin and extremities! Frostbite and hypothermia could occur in minutes.
Looking ahead to Friday into Saturday morning, a Winter Storm Watch is in effect. The storm is still expected to bring a mixed bag of snow, sleet, freezing rain and rain. It will likely start as snow Friday afternoon, then transition to more of an icy mix later into the evening through early Saturday morning. The mountains will get the highest snow totals—up to 3-6″ on western-facing slopes. But up to 1-2″ is possible around the Charlotte metro. Unfortunately, we could see more of an icy glaze developing outside of the mountains, definitely making for slick roads and difficult travel. Plan accordingly and be safe!
We’re still a couple of days away, so the forecast could still change. Keep checking in for updates!
Tonight: Clear and frigid. Low 19.
Thursday: Sunny and cold. High 41.
