CHARLOTTE (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A person was sent to the hospital with life-threatening injuries after multiple attempted traffic stops ended with the suspect being shot by an officer, according to Charlotte Mecklenburg Police.
Around 2 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 11, officers say they tried to pull a car over several times. The vehicle eventually pulled over at a gas station on South Boulevard near East Arrowood Road, and the suspect got out of the car.
Reportedly sensing a deadly threat, at least one officer shot and hit the suspect. Officers gave medical aid to the suspect, who was later taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.
According to authorities, the suspect’s weapon was found at the scene. Police did not say why they were trying to pull this vehicle over.
No officers were shot; however, several officers were also taken to the hospital as a precaution.
As is policy, all those involved are on paid administrative leave, and the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) is leading the investigation into the incident. CMPD Internal Affairs Bureau will also run a separate investigation.
