CHARLOTTE (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A police officer arrested on Christmas Eve for assault involving a gun was charged again, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.
Arrest records show 51-year-old Officer Onesiphorus Bernard Williams was charged on Friday, Dec. 27, for a domestic violence protective order violation. He posted a $5,000 unsecured bond two days later on Sunday, Dec. 29.
Williams was initially charged on Christmas Eve following a domestic assault with a deadly weapon at a private residence near 6800 Somersworth Drive in east Charlotte.
Williams was hired in October of 2022 and is currently part of the South Division. He was placed on unpaid leave pending the investigation.
CMPD Chief Johnny Jennings released the following statement after Williams’ first arrest:
I am deeply troubled by the arrest of Officer Williams. Our department holds itself and its officers to the highest standards of conduct, both on and off duty. This incident is a serious violation of those standards and a betrayal of the public trust we strive to earn every day. We will not tolerate any behavior that undermines the integrity of the CMPD or erodes the confidence of the community we serve. This officer’s actions do not reflect the values of the men and women who dedicate their lives to protecting and serving our city.
