Clinton Township Shooting: Clinton Township Man, Steven Cole, Arraigned for Shooting Neighbor in Altercation Over Girlfriend, Faces Life Felony Charges and $250,000 Bond”.
A 32-year-old Clinton Township man, Steven Cole, has been arraigned in connection with a shooting incident involving his neighbor, which occurred on Thursday, April 25, 2024. The altercation allegedly stemmed from Cole’s belief that his neighbor had contact with his girlfriend, leading him to confront the victim in the parking lot of their apartment complex and shoot him twice.
Fortunately, the victim is expected to make a full recovery from the injuries sustained in the shooting. Cole, on the other hand, is facing a slew of charges, including Assault with Intent to Murder (a life felony), two counts of Felony Firearm (two-year mandatory felonies), Possession of a Firearm by a Prohibited Person (a five-year felony), and habitual fourth offender enhancements.
During his arraignment in 41B Clinton Township District Court, Magistrate Ryan Zemke set Cole’s bond at $250,000 cash/surety, with no 10% option. Additionally, Cole is not allowed to have any contact with the victim or anyone associated with the case, and must wear a steel GPS tether if released. He is also prohibited from possessing any drugs, alcohol, or weapons.
Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido emphasized the severity of the charges, stating, “When an individual chooses violence, he betrays not only the victim but also the fabric of our community. We will ensure that those individuals are held responsible and accountable.”
Cole’s case will proceed with a Probable Cause Conference scheduled for Tuesday, May 14, 2024, at 8:30 a.m. via Zoom, before District Court Judge Jacob Femminineo, Jr.
The community is relieved that the victim is expected to recover, but shaken by the violence that occurred in their neighborhood. The incident serves as a reminder of the devastating consequences of choosing violence and the importance of holding individuals accountable for their actions.
As the legal proceedings continue, the community will be watching closely to ensure that justice is served in this case. Cole’s actions have caused harm not only to the victim but also to the community at large, and it is crucial that he is held accountable for his crimes.
The incident is a sobering reminder of the importance of addressing conflicts peacefully and seeking help when needed. The community is encouraged to come together to support the victim and promote a culture of nonviolence and respect for all individuals.
