A CPS Energy lineman was electrocuted early on Tuesday, July 23, while working to restore storm-related power outages in west Bexar County, according to the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office. The Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the man as 32-year-old Clayton Kloesel. Officials said that the lineman was on the utility pole when a power surge struck. The utility workers believed that electricity had been cut to the line that was being worked on, according to KSAT.
A BCSO spokesperson said that deputies attempted life saving measures but the man was pronounced dead around 5:30 a.m. BCSO is continuing to investigate. The San Antonio power company worked overnight to restore power, with outages impacting more than 6,000 customers around 7 p.m. That figure dropped to about 3,200 by 6:45 a.m., and has shrunk to approximately 850 customers as of 9:15 a.m.
