While getting ready to play for Clackamas Community College in the forthcoming season, Mauras was shot and died in Portland, Oregon.
Both his hometown of Freeport, New York and the wrestling community have been rocked by his sudden passing.
Mauras was a dominant force in high school wrestling, and he was well known for his athletic prowess. He started his career at Freeport High School and then moved to Hempstead High School, where he kept up his stellar performance.
Mauras, a four-time Nassau County medallist, advanced to the championship round three times and won consecutive titles for Freeport in 2019 and Hempstead in 2020.
His successes in wrestling during his high school years served as evidence of his talent, commitment, and love for the sport.
In addition to his accomplishments in high school, Mauras received training at the esteemed Savage Wrestling Academy, where he improved his skills and got ready for college competition.
In the 2024 season, he made his competitive debut at Iowa Central Community College, where he excelled.
Mauras then chose to go to Clackamas Community College in Oregon for the ongoing wrestling season, placing his sights on competing at the NJCAA level.
Unfortunately, Maura’s life was taken by gun violence in Portland, just as his wrestling career was about to take off. His small child is among the devastated family members he leaves behind.

Following his passing, Mauras’ family started a GoFundMe page to help them with their legal bills and to continue fighting for justice in his honour.
The three main objectives of the fundraising are to pay for Mauras’s legal expenses, help his family’s travel and lodging expenses while they attend court hearings in Oregon, and make sure that Mauras’ voice is heard as they pursue justice for his killing.
