Chrystal Ramey Obituary, Death; – The family of a woman from Columbus, who tragically lost her life after her vehicle fell into a pond in Obetz last week, is seeking assistance from the community to cover burial costs.
The Franklin County Coroner’s office confirmed on Tuesday that Chrystal Ramey, 61, from the Far West Side, passed away on January 3 at a Columbus hospital. She lost control of her Hyundai Accent on Toy Road, near the Gateway Court entrance to an Amazon fulfillment center, resulting in the front end of the car plunging into an open and unfenced pond.
A male passenger in the front seat was able to escape and swim to safety, but Ramey was unable to do so. Divers from the Columbus Division of Fire retrieved Ramey from the pond after she failed to resurface. She was subsequently transported to OhioHealth Grant Medical Center in critical condition, where she was pronounced dead at 7:08 p.m.
The passenger was also taken to OhioHealth Grant Medical Center but fortunately survived his injuries. In response to this tragedy, Ramey’s family and friends have established a GoFundMe campaign to assist with her burial expenses. So far, the campaign has raised $670 of the $6,000 target.
“Chrystal was a beloved daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, aunt, and a significant figure in her family’s lives, and her absence will be deeply felt,” the GoFundMe page expresses. The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office is actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident.
