Christopher Jones Obituary, – Albert Antown Sistrunk, 38, is facing a second-degree murder charge in connection with the death of Christopher Jones, 57, a Coconut Grove grandfather.
The incident occurred when Jones was riding his bike south on Douglas Road and stopped at Oak Avenue in Coconut Grove around 1:30 a.m. A white Nissan SUV approached from the opposite direction and stopped at the intersection. The suspect, allegedly Sistrunk, exited the vehicle and proceeded to assault Jones by pistol-whipping him between the head and shoulder.
During the altercation, the firearm discharged, striking Jones in the left shoulder. Sistrunk then fled the scene in the SUV. Jones was rushed to Jackson Memorial Hospital but succumbed to his injuries an hour later. Law enforcement authorities were able to identify the SUV through surveillance footage and license plate readers, leading them to a residence in Homestead where Sistrunk was apprehended.
Upon his arrest, Sistrunk was observed with bloodstains on his shirt and shorts, which were collected as evidence. Sistrunk had a prior court appearance for a cocaine possession charge, with a pending murder charge against him. He is scheduled to appear in court again on Friday. Friends of the victim expressed their grief over the loss of Jones, a well-known figure in Coconut Grove who was remembered for his presence in the community.
