A sheriff’s deputy has died several days after being shot while serving a search warrant in west Georgia. Investigator Taylor Bristow from the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office succumbed to his injuries on Friday, following the shooting that occurred on Tuesday. Bristow was critically wounded while assisting the Georgia Bureau of Investigation with a warrant in Carrollton.
Bristow had been hospitalized at Grady Hospital in Atlanta and was part of a team executing a search warrant related to child exploitation and computer crimes. The GBI reported that the suspect, Christopher Bly, fired a handgun from inside his home, injuring himself and Bristow before being pronounced dead at the scene.
The search led to the seizure of electronic devices containing child sexual abuse materials. Georgia Governor Brian Kemp expressed condolences and urged support for the Bristow family and law enforcement during this difficult time.
WHAT HAPPENED TO Christopher Bly?
Georgia Bureau of Investigation confirms NO law enforcement officers fired their weapon.
It was the suspect, Christopher Bly who turned the gun on himself. Sources tell me it was that same shot that struck Investigator Bristow in the face.
The GBI said they showed up at the home around 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday regarding an ongoing child pornography/exploitation case involving Bly. He opened the door after law enforcement knocked on his door before immediately retreating back into the home.
Deputies followed him inside including Investigator Bristow.
At some point the GBI said Bly pulled out a handgun, shot himself which again the same bullet struck Investigator Bristow in the face.
Bly died. Investigator Bristow was flown to Grady where he remains in a medically induced coma. His wife put out a statement a short time ago “We see everything and we feel everything. The love, the prayers, the thoughts, the well wishes. We are fighting the good fight and APPRECIATE every little and big thing. It’s does not go without notice. I love you all and my words will never be able to form a true statement of what I feel inside. My heart is in a thousand pieces right now and I wish I had good news and a true update but we are not out of the woods yet and we need all the love, prayers and well wishes to continue! God is good and he is in control!”
