Christopher Alan Phillips Obituary, Death;- Body camera footage released by Phoenix police sheds light on a January shooting by officers that killed a suspect.
Officers responded to a complaint of trespassers at an abandoned property on Jan. 17 in the area of 31st Avenue and Baseline Road, according to police. They pursued an armed man who fled and ran west along Baseline. The man then turned north onto 35th Avenue and entered a private driveway east of 35th Avenue.
The man, identified by Phoenix police as 45-year-old Christopher Alan Phillips, was shot and killed by police after they reported he raised a gun and aimed it at two officers who were pursuing him. An officer in the video can be heard saying, “He pointed the gun at me, bro.” A handgun was found on the ground where Phillips fell after being shot.
Police provided aid to Phillips before he was taken to a hospital, where he later died from his injuries The officer in the shooting was assigned to the Maryvale-Estrella Mountain precinct and had eight years of service, police said.
The shooting investigation is ongoing.
