CHARLOTTE (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Some residents in Charlotte have been without water for at least 14 hours due to a water main break, and it could take at least 17 hours to get it fully fixed, according to Charlotte Water.
Around 6:45 p.m. on Tuesday, Charlotte Water posted on X that crews were preparing a water pipe that was impacting service to Commonwealth Ave. and the immediate area. The initial repair was estimated to take 4-6 hours.
At 10 p.m., Charlotte Water posted again saying the same water main break would take an estimated 6-8 hours to repair.
Residents were not happy waking up Wednesday morning to find out that their water service was still not restored. Around 7:10 a.m., a customer asked Charlotte Water for an update since it’s been almost 12 hours without water. Officials responded by saying, “The crew encountered unforeseen challenges underground and is working through them.” They estimated it would take at least four more hours to fix the pipe.
If that estimate holds true, residents will be without water until about noon on Wednesday. That means an initial repair of 4-6 hours will take crews more than 17 hours to complete.
Queen City News reached out to Charlotte Water officials to get more information on what’s causing the delays but haven’t yet heard back.
