CHARLOTTE (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A man has been sentenced to more than nine years in prison for assaulting two US Marshals deputies, according to the United States Attorney’s Office.
Julian Jared Gill, 34, will serve three years of supervised release following his 111-month sentence for his actions in 2022.
According to court documents, Gill was arrested in 2022 for being found with a firearm as a felon. He allegedly tried to hide it in the toilet tank of his hotel room before surrendering it to the police.
While appearing in court in 2023 for those charges, Gill got upset in court at a judge’s ruling, officials said. Gill then allegedly assaulted two Deputy U.S. Marshals in the holding cell blocks of the courthouse.
On Feb. 28, 2024, Gill pled guilty to possession of a firearm by a felon and felony assault, resist and impede a federal officer. A judge sentenced Gill to 70 months in prison for the firearm conviction and 41 months for the assault on law enforcement officials. Those sentences will be served consecutively for a total of 111 months.
“Attacks on our law enforcement officers cannot be tolerated, and I hope the extra time
sentenced is a warning to others,” U.S. Attorney Russ Ferguson said.
