Chaquan Jones Obituary, Death;- Two men from Hartford were convicted on Friday in relation to a triple shooting that occurred in 2021, resulting in one fatality and two injuries. Chaquan Jones, aged 33, was transported to the hospital, where he was subsequently pronounced dead.
Lamont Fields, 27, also from Hartford, was found guilty of one count of Murder, one count of Conspiracy to Commit Murder, two counts of Assault in the First Degree with a Discharge of a Firearm, two counts of Conspiracy to Commit Assault in the First Degree by Discharge of a Firearm, and one count of Criminal Possession of a Firearm.
Joshua Rodriguez, 23, a Hartford resident, was convicted of one count of Accessory to Murder, one count of Conspiracy to Commit Murder, two counts of Accessory Assault in the First Degree with a Discharge of a Firearm, and two counts of Conspiracy to Commit Assault in the First Degree by Discharge of a Firearm.
According to prosecutors, on May 4, 2021, at approximately 6:20 p.m., Hartford Police received a report of gunfire at 17 Norwich Street, triggered by a shot spotter activation indicating six rounds. Upon arrival, officers discovered three individuals suffering from gunshot wounds.
The victims had been socializing in front of 19 Norwich Street when they witnessed a confrontation between a male and a female, later identified as Rodriguez. One of the victims intervened, urging the male to stop assaulting the female.
Rodriguez retorted, “You don’t want any part of this,” before contacting Fields by phone. Shortly thereafter, Fields and Rodriguez approached the victims and opened fire as they attempted to escape. Police located one victim lying in the driveway of 15-17 Norwich Street with a gunshot wound to the chest.
The other two victims were found inside 19 Norwich Street, suffering from gunshot wounds to the back and leg. Jones was taken to Hartford Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. One victim sustained a gunshot wound to the ankle, while the other was shot twice in the back and is now paralyzed as a result of the incident.
Sentencing is set for May 8 at Hartford Superior Court.
