Center City Philadelphia Shooting Leaves 3 Hurt, Police Report: Philadelphia, PA – Three people were shot in Center City Philadelphia on Sunday night, concluding a violent weekend in the city that left at least two people dead and several others injured. Philadelphia police responded to the shooting near the intersection of 11th and Ludlow streets, just before 11:30 p.m. on June 2, 2024, alongside officers from nearby Jefferson University Hospital, according to Philadelphia Police Capt. Anthony Ganard.
At the scene, police discovered three gunshot victims. A 42-year-old woman had been shot in the pelvis and arm, a 53-year-old woman had been shot in the knee, and a 22-year-old man had been hit twice in his arm. The 42-year-old woman was left in critical condition, while the other two victims were listed in stable condition at the hospital. Capt. Ganard reported that at least four shots were fired during what witnesses described as “some sort of argument or dispute.” Police are reviewing surveillance footage as part of their search for the shooter.
This shooting capped a weekend of violence in Philadelphia. On Saturday, a road rage incident near the intersection of Grays Avenue and South 62nd Street in Southwest Philadelphia resulted in three people being shot, leaving a young man dead. Additionally, on Friday night, a man was shot several times at the intersection of 58th and Ellsworth streets in Southwest Philadelphia. Despite this weekend’s violence, overall homicides in Philadelphia are down approximately 38% from the same time last year, according to police data. As of Monday, at least 109 homicides had been reported in the city, marking the lowest year-to-date homicide total since 2016.
Philadelphia police encourage anyone with information about these incidents to come forward.
