Cati Blauvelt Obituary, Death; – A man from Upstate New York, who was convicted of murdering his estranged wife and subsequently evaded law enforcement for several years, is now seeking to overturn his conviction.
John Tufton Blauvelt, a former Army recruiter, fatally stabbed Cati Blauvelt in October 2016 before absconding from the state with his teenage girlfriend. Cati’s body was discovered in the basement of an abandoned residence in Simpsonville.
Blauvelt eluded capture for six years until he was apprehended by U.S. Marshals in Oregon. He was extradited to Greenville County and found guilty of murder in September 2024.
During the trial, investigators presented evidence of a letter found in John’s journal, which contained what appeared to be a confession. Following the denial of his request for a new trial, John’s defense team filed an appeal on February 20, 2025.
