Candace Dicks Obituary, Pedestrian Dies In Sumter County After Being Struck; A Sumter County woman was struck by a vehicle over the weekend and died on Monday, according to authorities.
Candace Dicks, 31, succumbed to her injuries at Prisma Health Richland, Sumter County Coroner Robbie Baker reported.
Dicks was struck by a vehicle on US Highway 401/Oswego Hwy near Farmingdale Road, approximately 2 miles west of Mayesville, around 10:30 p.m. on Sunday. Authorities stated that a 2018 GMC pickup was traveling south on U.S. 401 when it hit Dicks, who was in the roadway at the time.
An autopsy is scheduled for Thursday at The Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. The Sumter County Coroner’s office and the South Carolina Highway Patrol are investigating the incident.
The driver of the pickup truck, who was the sole occupant, was not injured, according to troopers.
This incident follows a tragic weekend in South Carolina where two other pedestrians were struck and killed. The community mourns the loss and awaits further details from the ongoing investigation.
