A long-anticipated pool project in Louisville’s Camp Taylor neighborhood won’t be making a splash this summer.
“The construction schedule has gotten behind at Camp Taylor and construction will not be finished in time for this summer,” Greenberg said.
For nearby residents like Morgan Viers, the delay is disappointing.
“We were hoping that we could just walk right up the street and have that right there,” Viers said. “The convenience of it is right here.”
The original Camp Taylor pool closed in 2019, and Metro Councilwoman Josie Raymond, who represents the area, said the community has been waiting ever since.
“Folks lost out on a community resource, and when it was announced the pool was returning and it was going to be this world-class facility, people got really excited,” Raymond said.
Despite the delay, Raymond said the excitement for the $12 million facility remains high. Plans for the pool include lap lanes, a zero-depth entry, and a water slide. Once completed, it will become Louisville’s fourth public pool.
“This is going to be a place where we welcome people from all across the city,” she said.
Greenberg said funds saved during construction will now be used to upgrade nearby basketball courts and install new fencing, enhancing the entire park.
“It needs an upgrade, it needs a facelift,” Raymond said. “This gives us the time to do that so when we open this absolutely incredible pool facility, we have an absolutely incredible park to go with it.”
To ease the disappointment, the city will offer family activity vouchers for alternative recreational options this summer.
“I was hoping they would do that,” Viers said. “This is the first I am hearing of that, so that is great.”
The new pool, basketball courts and fencing are now expected to be completed by late spring 2026.
