Cameron Richardson Obituary, Death; – A police officer from Detroit has tragically lost his life following an alleged hit-and-run incident on the city’s east side early Sunday morning. According to law enforcement, the incident occurred shortly after midnight at the intersection of Hoover Street and Greiner Street.
The officer, named Cameron Richardson, was returning home in a Jeep Wrangler after completing his shift when a driver purportedly attempted to turn into the intersection, colliding with the Jeep and causing it to overturn. Authorities report that Richardson succumbed to his injuries shortly after the collision.
The vehicle involved in the incident, described by witnesses as a white van, reportedly fled the scene but was later located by Michigan State Police a short distance away from the intersection. A firearm was allegedly discovered inside the van.
Detroit police have stated that “a couple” of individuals who were in the van at the time of the incident have been arrested following the execution of two search warrants. The driver of the van, a 28-year-old man, has not yet been taken into custody. Police are maintaining communication with the man’s family and are urging him to surrender.
Bettison noted that Richardson was a father of two daughters, a veteran of the U.S. Army, and had been with the Detroit Police Department for just over a year. “His friends describe him as somewhat quiet, but very, very conscientious and thorough,” Bettison remarked.
