Following a four-month search, a missing college student in Texas has been formally declared deceased. The remains of a 21-year-old Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi student named Caleb Harris were discovered at a wastewater well last month, according to the Corpus Christi Police Department.
Since Harris was last seen on March 4th, family, friends, and law enforcement had been looking for him. Police claimed that on June 24, while performing maintenance at the Perry Place wastewater lift station, municipal workers found the remains within a wastewater collection well. They notified the department right away. The bodies were discovered in a highly advanced condition of decomposition, but no indications of trauma were observed, according to the officials.
The remains were identified as Harris this week. Harris’ body has been taken to the Nueces County Medical Examiner’s Office for additional testing, but the cause of death is still unknown. The 21-year-old’s family told KRIS they were grateful to everyone who offered assistance and that they have been relying on their faith to get through the trying times.
“You never would have imagined finding yourself in this situation. The father of Caleb Harris, Randy Harris, said, “You do everything in your power to protect your kids and something like this happens, it just changes your whole world.”
Numerous law enforcement agencies and community members reportedly joined Corpus Christi police in their hunt for Caleb Harris. The police stated that their investigation into the matter is still ongoing, and the medical examiner’s office is working on a final autopsy report.
