Caden Richardson Obituary, Death;- A 21-year-old man who lost his life in a collision in Spokane Valley late Friday night has been named.
The Spokane County Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the deceased as Caden Richardson, aged 21. The office reported that the cause of death was blunt force trauma, and the incident has been classified as an accident.
According to the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched to the scene of the crash at approximately 11:15 p.m., where a vehicle had veered off the road and collided with a fence near South Rotchford Drive and South Galway Lane. Upon arrival, deputies discovered a severely damaged Subaru entangled in a chain-link fence on the west side of Rotchford Drive. The passenger sustained critical injuries and, despite attempts to provide assistance, later succumbed to those injuries.
Deputies noted that the driver, who was present at the scene, exhibited signs of alcohol consumption.
After interviewing witnesses and collecting evidence, deputies concluded that the Subaru was traveling at an estimated speed of 55-60 mph in a 25 mph zone while heading south on Rotchford Drive. A northbound driver reported to deputies that he had to maneuver to the far-right side of Rotchford Drive to avoid a collision with the Subaru, which was positioned in the center of the roadway.
The witness recounted hearing the sound of screeching tires as the Subaru hit a curb on the west side of Rotchford Drive before crashing into a fence. The witness turned back to find the passenger trapped inside the Subaru, appearing unresponsive and without a pulse. Unable to extricate the passenger, the witness performed chest compressions until Spokane Valley firefighters arrived to take over.
Deputies indicated that the driver, who showed signs of impairment, was transported to the hospital. They established probable cause to believe that the driver was operating the vehicle recklessly while impaired at the time of the incident. The driver was subsequently arrested for vehicular homicide and, following medical clearance, was booked into the Spokane County Jail.
