Emergency responders from the Harvard Fire Protection District and McHenry County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the scene of the crash at Route 173 and Reese Road in unincorporated Harvard at 7:50 a.m. on Wednesday. Upon arrival, fire crews discovered a single-vehicle crash with only one occupant, as reported by Harvard Fire Chief John Kimmel. The driver, a male, was found unconscious and not breathing.
On Friday, McHenry County Chief Deputy Coroner Olivia Zednick confirmed the driver’s identity as Bryan Grelyak, 58, of Harvard. Kimmel mentioned that the Ford pickup truck had been heading southbound on Reese Road and proceeded through the intersection at a slow pace. Following the crash, the pickup truck sustained minor damages as it came to a stop in the ditch and tree line.

Instead, Grelyak was transported by ambulance to Mercyhealth Harvard Hospital, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival, according to Kimmel.
The incident did not involve any other vehicles. The road closure resulting from the incident was brief, and the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office is conducting an investigation.
