Brock Mater Obituary – Surprise police have announced that a man and his two young children were found dead in an apparent murder-suicide. The deceased have been identified as Brock Mater, 34, along with his 7-year-old son and 6-year-old daughter. The tragic discovery was made during a welfare check conducted early Monday afternoon.
The incident came to light when a woman, who is currently going through a divorce with Mater, became worried after her children’s school reported an unexcused absence. She informed the police that her children had been visiting their estranged father. Despite multiple attempts to reach Mater through phone calls and a visit to his residence on Bell and Litchfield roads, she received no response, even though his car was parked outside.
Upon receiving the concerned woman’s call, officers arrived at Mater’s house and also failed to receive any response at the door. Consequently, they decided to forcibly enter the premises to conduct a welfare check. Tragically, they discovered Mater and the two children deceased from gunshot wounds. A rifle was found on Mater’s lap.
As the investigation unfolded, detectives learned that Mater had been undergoing mental health treatment in recent times.
