Shooting reported at Dallas ISD’s Wilmer-Hutchins High School: Everything we know. Numerous police and fire vehicles responded to the southeast Dallas school shortly after 10:30 a.m. Friday. DALLAS — Multiple law enforcement agencies were responding Friday morning to a reported shooting incident at Wilmer-Hutchins High School in southeast Dallas, according to Dallas Fire-Rescue officials.
Police sources told WFAA that one student was injured and a suspect in the incident, also a student at the school, was taken into custody around 11 a.m.
The incident was initially reported shortly after 10:30 a.m., according to Dallas Fire-Rescue officials.
Sources told WFAA that the incident happened inside the “G” building at the school near the football fieldhouse, and then the suspect was taken into custody after running toward the school football field.
The injured student was expected to be OK, sources told WFAA. According to Dallas Fire-Rescue officials, the victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Law enforcement sources tell WFAA that they believe the suspected shooter and their victim knew one another.
At 11:15 a.m., Dallas Independent School District officials said in a statement that “all students and team members are safe” at the school.
“Police are on site to ensure our school remains secure,” Dallas ISD officials said in the statement. “At this time, we ask everyone to refrain from coming to the campus, as we limit access inside.”
Wilmer-Hutchins High School, which is part of the Dallas ISD, is located on Langdon Road, near Interstate 45 and Interstate 20.
Parents of students at Wilmer-Hutchins Hugh School confirm to WFAA that there are metal detectors at the school. Dallas ISD also instituted a new policy for the 2023-2024 school year requiring all students use clear backpacks.
It is not clear at this point how a gun got into the school.
Dallas Fire-Rescue officials confirmed their crews were dispatched to the school at 10:36 a.m. Friday. Dallas police officials confirmed they also were responding to the scene, but they deferred to Dallas Independent School District police for more information.
Several Dallas Fire-Rescue ambulances and fire trucks were seen in the school parking lot, and several police cars were seen surrounding the campus.
A parent outside the school described to WFAA the “state of shock” among parents of students at the school after hearing reports of a shooting. The parent told WFAA that his daughter called him and told him that there was a shooter at the school.
