A Roseburg man died, and a passenger in his vehicle was injured in a two-vehicle accident in downtown Roseburg on Tuesday morning.
According to a department release, Roseburg Police Department officers and emergency personnel responded to the crash at the intersection of Southeast Pine Street and Southeast Oak Avenue at approximately 8:40 a.m.
Public Information Officer Sergeant Daniel Allen reported that a preliminary investigation indicated a pickup truck, driven by 20-year-old Bowan Middlesworth of Azalea, was traveling eastbound on Oak Street and ran a red light. A subcompact car, driven by 69-year-old Gene Manor, then struck the side of the pickup near the rear axle.
Manor was declared deceased at the scene. The passenger in his car, 57-year-old Christopher Ronan of Roseburg, suffered a broken arm. Neither occupant appeared to be wearing a seatbelt.
Middlesworth, the pickup truck driver, was not injured in the crash.
Allen noted that traffic at the intersection was impacted for approximately three hours during the on-scene investigation. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
The Roseburg Police Department was assisted by the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office Crash Reconstruction Team and Medical Examiner’s Office, the Roseburg Fire Department, Umpqua Valley Ambulance, and the Oregon Department of Transportation.
